Assistant Directors’ Message
It is a privilege for me to have the opportunity to give a message to the IIM website on post graduate education section. Post graduate academic programme started in 1993 in the Institute with the commencement of Mphil Ayurveda and Mphil Unani post graduate courses. The institute is the pioneer institute in Sri Lanka which started post graduate education. Till then the Ayurveda and Unani graduates depend on Indian universities to pursue their higher education.
Apart from the Mphil courses we have been able to conduct Post Graduate Diploma courses in Ayurveda and Unani in the institute. Further we have planned to conduct MD Ayurveda, MD Unani, MD Desheeya Chikithsa and PhD courses in Ayurveda in the near future. MD Ayurveda and MD Unani courses are about to start in 2011.All these courses are extension courses in nature. Course fee will be changed annually. Degree certificate for the above courses will be conferred by the University of Colombo. I am happy to say about 95% of the academic staff is post graduate qualified in the institute who add great strength to the post graduate academic programme conducted. Academic staff and non academic staff take hand in hand to improve post graduate academic programme in the institute. It is my duty to mention that we have been so lucky to be under the umbrella of administration of the University of Colombo and the Hon: director IIM, Rajagiriya.
